Freepoint 3D-XL2 Large Volume 3D Digitizer with Excel
- Freepoint 3D-XL2 digitizer is a large volume three dimensional engineering and design tool to measure the location of user selected points on the surface of an object to within ± 0.04" or around ± 1/32", or ± 1 mm. Active working volume is, 8' x 8' x 8' or larger, and a fiducials feature allows the model (or digitizer) to be moved to handle even larger objects. Three-dimensional, XYZ coordinates
are directly, automatically inserted into the users engineering, design, analysis or control software application.
Additional information is in the Freepoint 3D help file (download, save, open).
- assemble sensor array
orientation of sensor array plane is not critical
sensor array must be stable - a heavy duty tripod or easel works well to mount the array (attached feet may be used for initial checkout but best accuracy may not be achieved)
sensor array defines back surface of active volume
- connect sensor array, probe, pilot bar, serial and power cable to/at controller
turn-on controller power
- install Freept3D Version 3.10 software application interface
open fp3dv310.exe on diskette
unzip to c:\tmp1 or other accessible location
open c:\tmp1\setup.exe to install software in c:\FreePt3D
(fp3dv310 also available to download at Freept3 Version 3.10)
- click in 'spheres' window within Freepoint 3D window
a message offers to prompt you through editing configuration parameters - enter no
click set button to open variable settings window
confirm settings - additional information is in Help
click OK, if asked, save configuration file
- open options on toolbar to set opening conditions
check connect to dig
check emulate keyboard
click OK
- open FreePt3D
message will indicate communications established, click OK
current configuration file will be displayed upper left main window
data display window will be open
hold probe in active volume
assure line-of-sight between emitters on probe and each sensor in array
trigger probe
formatted data, distance from last point, other values are displayed
- place probe tip in a cup or other device to hold it steady
trigger probe a few times from data display window using enter key or mouse
confirm distance from last point is within Freepoint 3D-XL2 accuracy ±0.04" or ±1 mm
with probe in hand measure distance between two points a known distance apart
using Freepoint 3D-XL2 with Excel
- in FREEPT3D variable settings window confirm an Excel format (see below) is selected
format can be changed by clicking on format bar
save Excel format
- open Excel worksheet to calculate the distance between two points
tape metal scale to stable surface within active volume
place cursor in cell A3
digitize first point
digitize second point
distance between points calculated in cell D4
a set of five measurements may be made in the table
standard & average deviations, average value of the set displayed in cells D13, D14 D15
using Freepoint 3D-XL2 with any software application
- FREEPT3D interface directly enters XYZ coordinates into any application function supporting keyboard entry such as XYZ 3D points
- open or define appropriate configuration file
